COVID-19 Update | Positive Cases Increased more than 5 Times in the past few days leads to Need for extension of nationwide lockdown up to 30th April

PM Modi holds a meeting via Video conference with the chief ministers of states to discuss the to discuss & decide the matter of extension of the nationwide lockdown, which was imposed to control the rapid spread of the COVID-19.

Till now 90% of states given their consent for an extension of nationwide lockdown up to 30th  April, at least.


During an Earlier address to Nation on 25th Mar 2020, PM announced that nationwide lockdown for the 21 days which is purposed to be lifted by 14th April 2020.


 However, India has witnessed the nation wise rapid growth in the number of corona positive cases in the past few days. Currently, there is more than 7,600 positive confirmed cases & death reported to more than 240.

In above, it can be clearly seen that there is a substantial increase (5.4 Times) in number of Corona confirmed cases from 1st April 2020. Total Number of confirmed cases was only 1397 on 31st march is crossed Over the 7,500 confirmed cases on 10th April 2020.

Further there significant increase in daily new cases can also be seen as per below graph.

This rapid increase in Number of new cases, Government already decided to  extend lockdown period till 30th April 2020 in some states.

Odisha becomes the first state who has extended the lockdown in the state till April 30 and shut all educational institutions till June 17 to curb the spread of the COVID-19.


Followed the same strategy by Punjab, CM capt. Amrinder Singh Announce that state has decided to extend the lockdown till 1st May 2020. This decision was taken to control the spread of Novel Coronavirus & to prevent overcrowding at the Mandis in the light of the ensuing upcoming wheat harvesting and procurement season.

Prime Minister Mr Modi on today attended a meeting with chief ministers of states on video conference. The meeting was held to discuss & decide the matter of extension of the nationwide lockdown, which was imposed to control the rapid spread of the COVID-19.


In during interaction Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Delhi’’s CM Arvind Kejriwal stated the vital role of a lockdown in the nationwide battle against the coronavirus pandemic and they sought for a nationwide immediate extension of the shutdown till April 30, at least.


Voting is being done for the Extenstion of nationwide lockdown, as per latest updates 10 out of 11 states urge for extension of lockdown at least up to 30th April 2020. UP CM Yogi Adityanath also voted for a national extension of the  21-day lockdown.



States Voted 90% Vote in favour of an extension of nationwide lockdown up to 30th  April, at least.
