Artificial intelligence, Its Applications & how it is going to be game changer for the Industries

Share:

The year 2019 going to be Year of Trend-spotting like increased uses of drones, voice-activated home assistants, something called “8K” television. But the most provocative robots were those that claimed to “read” humans faces, revealing our emotions and physical health in a click of a single image. How this all can be possible?

The answer is this all can possible because of "Artificial Intelligence", yes since the invention of computers or machines, their capability to perform various tasks went on growing exponentially well. Humans have developed the power of computer systems in terms of their diverse working domains, their increasing speed, and reducing size with respect to time.

So let’s understand what is Artificial Intelligence and how it works

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is a way of making a computer, a computer-controlled robot, or a software think and act intelligently, in a similar manner the intelligent humans think & act accordingly.

AI is accomplished by studying how human brain thinks, learn, decide, and work while trying to solve a problem in a particular situation, and then using the outcomes of this study as a basis of developing intelligent software and system who can think, learn decide & work same as humans do.

Foundation concept of Artificial Intelligence

The first work that is now generally recognized as Artificial Intelligence was McCullough and Pitts' 1943 formal design for Turing-complete "artificial neurons".
The first AI Research work done in 1956 at Dartmouth college of USA, by the Attendees Allen Newell (CMU), Herbert Simon (CMU), John McCarthy (MIT), Marvin Minsky (MIT) and Arthur Samuel (IBM) became the founders and leaders of AI research. They have developed a machine learning which can solve word problems in algebra, proving logical theorems and speaking English even better than Human do.

Mr. John McCarthy also was known as the father of Artificial intelligence of machine learning concept, according to him, AI is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs.

Now the question is why AI, It is because the curiosity of human leads them to wonder can machine thinks & behave as Humans Do? So the intention behind the development of AI was creating the same intelligence in the machine that we normally find in a human.
So it can be said that AI was developed to serve the following objectives:

1.   To Create Expert Systems: The main idea behind the need of expert system is the real-life expert are very limited in numbers and can serve only a few numbers of people at a time, however, the expert system can act as a human expert and can serve the infinite number of users as the real life expert do. Under this system exhibit intelligent behavior, learn, demonstrate, explain, and advice its users.

2.   To Implement Human Intelligence in Machines:  The other important objective is to Creating systems that understand, think, learn, and behave like humans.

Application of Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial Intelligence is currently using in the following field dominantly:

1. Expert Systems – An applications which integrate machine, software, and special information to impart reasoning and advising. They provide explanation and advice to the users as human experts. Its Uses expert system such as agriculture, education, environment, law manufacturing, medicine power systems etc

2. Vision Systems These systems understand, interpret, and comprehend visual input on the computer. For example, A Vision Application for the Army that helps them in better surveillance.

3. A spying Drones that takes photographs or records audio or Visuals, which are used to figure out spatial information or map of the areas.

4. Doctors use a clinical expert system to diagnose the patient.

5. Gaming Tools – Artificial Intelligence plays a crucial role in strategic games such as chess, poker, tic-tac-toe, etc., where the machine can think of a large number of possible positions based on heuristic knowledge and various permutation combinations.

6. Natural Language Processing into computing language   It is possible to interact with the computer that understands the natural language spoken by humans.

7. Face Recognition: For example, Police use computer software that can recognize the face of criminal with the stored portrait made by a forensic artist or Unlocking  Devices like a computer & Mobile phones by recognizing the face of authorized users

8. Speech Recognition Some intelligent systems are capable of hearing and comprehending the language in terms of sentences and their meanings while a human talks to it. It can handle different accents, slang words, noise in the background, change in human’s noise due to cold, etc. Best examples for this is applications like Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri etc.

9. Handwriting Recognition The handwriting recognition software reads the text written on paper by a pen or on screen by a stylus. It can recognize the shapes of the letters and convert them into editable text.

10. Robots− Robots are able to perform the tasks given by a human. They have sensors to detect physical data from the real world such as light, heat, temperature, movement, sound, bump, and pressure. The manufacturing industry has already started adopting Robots for the manufacturing process and intelligent management of their machines.
They are capable of learning from their mistakes and they can adapt to the new environment.

Artificial Intelligence a Game changer for Industries

With Industry revolution 4.0, many countries have started adopting machine learning, data science, robotics & internet of things, which yield them higher as compression to previous technology that has been used by them.

As per the PWC estimation, the artificial intelligence could add $15.7 trillion to global GDP by 2030.

All the technology that are the pillars of Industry 4.0 requires artificial intelligence or machine learning, hence the artificial intelligence is going to be the game changer for the industry in near future and will be having an enormous impact over the world economy.

Let’s take Example:

Google Inc.: In case of Google Inc. Artificial Intelligence has played a central role in their growth & Mr. Sunder Pichai, CEO of Google said that Google evolving in computing from the mobile first world to Artificial Intelligence first. He believed that AI is going to be key to get market leadership in the coming future.
Resultant the google has started investing in AI back in the year 1998, till now they have invested nearly $8.6 billion in acquisitions of AI.

Many other market giants also understand the importance of Artificial Intelligence & they have invested the following amounts:

1. Amazon - $871 million

2. Apple - $786 million

3. Intel - $776 million

4. Microsoft - $690 million

5. Uber - $680 million

Further, as per the recent report by McKinsey states that Baidu, the Chinese equivalent of Alphabet, invested $20 billion in Artificial Intelligence in the year 2017. At the same time, Alphabet invested roughly $30 billion in developing AI technologies. The Chinese government has been actively pursuing AI technology in an attempt to control a future cornerstone innovation. Companies in the US are also investing time, money and energy into advancing AI technology.

The reason for such interest towards artificial intelligence is that artificial intelligence can enhance any product quality or functions and simultaneously can reduce cost. Which ultimately can increase their revenue drastically this is why companies and governments make considerable investments in the research and development of this technology.

based on the above this fact can't be denied that the coming age is going to be the age of machine learning and artificial intelligence is going to be the game changer in the future.
